Have you noticed how the practical side of things always runs smoothly at the School of Business? That’s thanks to our friendly, dynamic porter Lasse Jonsson. If you haven’t bumped into Lasse in the corridors yet, here’s your chance to meet him.
What is it like being a porter?
I do all sorts of practical services for everybody at the School of Business. My job is very varied – I like to joke that I do everything except give lectures. For example, I make sure the technical equipment in the lecture theatres work, drill holes in walls, sort the post, check the alarms and issue entry cards. In short, I deal with all practical jobs. My work is all about service.
What do you like best about working at the School of Business?
The diversity. There’s an incredible mix of people from many different countries and cultures. The atmosphere here is unhierarchical. Differences are appreciated and accepted. That makes me very happy. People are very friendly and I share laughs every day. There’s a great atmosphere here. It is the social aspect that I find most important, not the job in itself.
What do you like best about working at the School of Business?
There‘s plenty of variety. And it is definitely not a sedentary job – I appreciate that.
Is there anything tough about your work?
The only thing I sometimes find difficult is when people do not keep things tidy. Sometimes I go into a seminar hall and it looks like a war zone, with magazines, coffee cups and pieces of paper strewn everywhere – even though there’s a waste paper bin less than two metres away. I find that quite sad. But luckily most of the people I meet here are tidy.
What is the question you are asked most often?
The most frequent question is about entry cards for the computer hall. A lot of the students think they need an entry card to go in, but that’s only necessary after 6 p.m. and at weekends. At other times, you only need a code, which students can simply obtain be e-mailing me. If you need an entry card, you can send me an e-mail with your name and national identity number.
How can people contact you?
I am always rushing around seeing to all sorts of things. That makes it hard to plan things in advance. To help me keep track of all requests, it is best to e-mail me on lj@fel.su.se. You can also find me at the Porter’s Office on floor 2 in building 3, or call me on 070-663 12 08.
